The spruce budworm Early Intervention Strategy research project monitors populations, detects areas where populations are increasing and treats those areas. The research currently does most of its work in northern New Brunswick: that is where the populations are increasing. As populations shift, the research will shift with them. Should the populations start to increase in southern New Brunswick or other Atlantic provinces, the areas we focus our treatments on will change as well.
