The 2019 spring season is finally here, and with spruce and fir trees producing new shoots, the research program is in full swing! Although the treatment area is much smaller this year, spring is a very busy time for the research team who are monitoring spruce budworm populations and insect growth. For the past few weeks, the research team has been working in northeastern, New Brunswick to collect branch samples before the areas are treated. The samples provide us with a baseline of budworm populations. Currently, staff are focusing on tree development with the goal to optimize treatment timing.
